07. 10. 2020
Leading global provider of renewable solutions to ensure sustainability remains focus at Planica 2023 and Trondheim 2025 editions.
Stora Enso, the specialists in renewable and recyclable solutions, has prolonged its agreement as Presenting Sponsor of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships until 2025, covering the 2023 edition in Planica, Slovenia and the 2025 edition in Trondheim, Norway.
The agreement was brokered by TRIDEM Sports AG on behalf of Infront, a Wanda Sports Group company and the exclusive media and marketing partner for the International Ski Federation (FIS) event.
Stora Enso will feature on the official event logo, title and athletes' bibs for the fifth and sixth time. The company will also focus on ensuring the biennial event is sustainable by supporting the local organising committee's (LOC) efforts to protect the environment and use resources responsibly. All event installations, including start gates and interview backdrops will use wood-based renewable and recyclable raw materials.
Michael Witta, Vice President Marketing Sales at Infront, said: "Sustainability has become a vital part of all winter sports events. Securing Stora Enso for another two editions of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was hugely important to us as it underlines the commitment sport and fans must have to the environment."
Sustainability was a key feature of previous FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Over 5,000 small tree seedlings were given to visitors to take home and plant alongside other renewable giveaways distributed at 2019 edition in Seefeld, Austria. The FIS Nordic World Championships 2021 in Oberstdorf will see Stora Enso provide the LOC and its partners with renewable paper cups, shopping bags and other sustainable goods.
Sarah Lewis, Secretary General of FIS, said: "Stora Enso is a role model sponsor for FIS with their proactive support of the Local Organising Committees' sustainability initiatives with practical measures. We are extremely pleased that Stora Enso has extended its engagement for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships through 2025. The company’s strong eco-friendly philosophy and actions will have a chance to truly shine with the engaged hosts of Planica and Trondheim, who have both highlighted sustainability at the core of the Championships' DNA. It is truly a perfect fit for all parties."
Annica Bresky, President and CEO of Stora Enso, said: “We are excited to prolong our sponsorship of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships until 2025. Our renewable products contribute to making the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships top sustainable events. We are proud to be part of this journey and find the long-term focus as Presenting Sponsor of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships very successful.”
‘’We are pleased that the first commercial partner to confirm participation in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica in 2023 is none other than Stora Enso, the presenting sponsor. We are especially glad that our partner is a company that has already supported Nordic skiing in the past and therefore understands it more. Stora Enso’s environmental and sustainable orientation goes hand in hand with the philosophy of competitions Planica which is situated at the edge of Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s biggest natural value. We believe that the cooperation will take place to the mutual satisfaction and will culminate during the Championships in Planica in 2023,’’ said the OC Planica Secretary General Tomaž Šušteršič.
