Slovenia's Ski jumpers win Gold

The Slovenian ski jumping team won a gold medal in the team event at the 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Lovro Kos, Žiga Jelar, Timi Zajc, and Anže Lanišek thrilled the home crowd and provided a dream conclusion to the ski jumping events at the Planica Large hill.

For Slovenia, this is the third medal at the championships and the second gold. The Norwegians finished second, trailing the Slovenian quartet by twelve points. The Austrians won the bronze team medal.

Swedish's Woman strikes again

The women's classic race over 30 km with a mass start saw a dominant performance by the Swedish skier Ebba Andersson, who became world champion. The 25-year-old from Sollefteå was in second place after the first 6 kilometers, but then picked up the pace and gained a crucial lead, which she maintained until the finish. Andersson won her second gold medal at the 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, having already claimed victory in the 15 km skiathlon event.

Poker face Riiber

Also the last competition in Nordic Combined, the large hill ski jumping and 10 km cross-country skiing event, was dominated by the serial winner Jarl Magnus Riiber. The Norwegian won his fourth gold medal in Planica and, on top of that, in the ski jumping part he landed at an incredible 147 meters, surpassing Peter Prevc's record from 2014 on the Large Hill. Second place went to his compatriot Jens Luraas Oftenbro, while the now former champion Johannes Lamparter won bronze.

Saying Goodbye to Planica

The twelfth day of the competition at the 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica is reserved for the king's race in cross-country skiing. The men skiers will compete in the 50-kilometer race in the classical technique, marking the end of the competitions in the valley beneath the Ponce Mountains. After the demanding race, the last three competitors will receive their medals. The World Championships will conclude with a ceremonial event at the cross-country stadium.

Slovenia party at the Medal Plaza

The flags of Slovenia were proudly waving high on the Medal Plaza, as Timi Zajc received the gold FIS snowflake for his win in the individual competition on the large ski jumping hill. The members of the team events in ski jumping also received their medals. Slovenia's national team took gold home. The Nordic combined athletes were awarded for their performances in the ski jumping on the large hill and the 10 km cross-country skiing. The best female cross-country skiers also received medals for their exceptionally demanding and dedicated performances in the 30 km classic race.

  • Slovenia won a gold medal in a team ski jumping event at the FIS World Championships for the first time in history. It's the second medal for slovenian team on Large Hill events as they have also won a bronze at the Championshipa in Oberstdorf and Oslo.
  • Finland has won the most gold medals in team ski jumping events on large ski jumps. They have seven in total.
  • Norwegians are the most successful nation in terms of medals won at the FIS World Championships in cross-country skiing. The men's team has won a total of 159 medals, including 67 gold, 43 silver, and 49 bronze.
